The first South Australian country competition to be inaugurated was the Southern (Alexandria) Football Association in 1886. Southern feat- ured clubs such as Willunga, McLaren Vale and Aldinga. Yorke Peninsula established an association in 18888 and Gawler Football Association followed in 1889. A Northern Association commenced in 1889.
