Ann Powers is the chief pop critic of the Los Angeles Times. She has been writing about music for nearly three decades. She is the author of Weird Like Us: My Bohemian America, and, with the artist, Tori Amos: Piece By Piece. With Evelyn McDonnell, she co-edited the pioneering anthology Rock She Wrote: Women Write About Rock, Rap, and Pop. Daphne Carr is the author of Pretty Hate Machine (2010). Her essays have appeared in Marooned: The Next Generation of Desert Island Discs and Listen Again: A Momentary History of Pop Music.
