Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Road

Author(s): Kaffe Fassett

Craft

In this, the seventh in the series of Rowan's Patchwork and Quilting books by Kaffe Fassett, there are 20 exciting quilt projects to suit all skill levels. In addition to quilts by Fassett himself, there are designs by Janet Bolton (whose work is the subject of a special feature), Hilde Krohg and Kiko Goke, as well as work by previously featured designers including Roberta Horton, Mary Mashuta, Liza Prior Lucy, Pauline Smith and Brandon Mably...The quilts feature the new range of fabrics for Rowan in the Kaffe Fassett Patchwork Collection. His fascination with antique quilts provides the inspiration for two of his own designs for the book, Mossy Radiation and Dark and Light Chequerboard. The quilts are all protographed in glorious colour on location in the Yorkshire countryside, against a background of lichen-encrusted dry-stone walls, barns and gardens. * All the projects have full colour step-by-step diagrams and instructions. * Rowan Yarns, based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of wool yarns and knitting fashion designs, and now a leading publisher of knitting and patchwork project books.

Product Information

Born in San Francisco, Kaffe settled in England in 1964 and worked as an artist. On a trip to Scotland he stumbled on an irresistible collection of coloured yarns. A few months later he was hooked and proceeded to knit and stitch himself a career. In 1966 Kaffe was asked by the charity Oxfam to visit villages in India to advise on designs that could be marketed in the West. A wonderful range of stripped fabric was the result. After meeting with his close friend and quilter Liza Prior Lucy in 1996, Kaffe was urged to do a book on her great passion - patchwork. This was the beginning of a new adventure and Kaffe's first patchwork collection "Glorious Patchwork" was published in 1997. Kaffe's second book, "Passionate Patchwork" written with Liza was published in 2000. Whilst working on quits for "Glorious Patchwork" Kaffe designed a range of woven short cotton and checked fabrics. These were quickly followed by a stunning collection of printed fabrics for the Kaffe Fassett Fabric Collection, all of which are featured in the Rowan Patchwork books, the first of which was published in 1999.
