Australian Beach Houses looks at the history of the beach house, and examines why the sea air encourages a greater and more innovative range of architectural expression not found in city dwellings. The details which give all of the houses featured in the book their beachside character - awnings, decks, verandahs and building materials - are identified and their various styles documented. And finally, a chapter on coastal gardens shows just how other-worldly, restful and soul-refreshing such places by the sea can be.
