DescriptionThe reading woman has long intrigued artists, who have depicted her in all manner of settings--at a table, in a comfortable chair, alone or with others--and have managed to draw us in to the mysteries of her world. The thirty artists represented in this calendar--among them Mary Stevenson Cassatt, Frederick Childe Hassam, Carl Larsson, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, James Jacques Joseph Tissot and Vincent Van Gogh--have all turned an affectionate eye to the reading woman. Spanning time and place from the eighteenth century to the twentieth and Russia to Europe to America, the thirty-two images attest to the universal artistic appeal of a woman with a book. Accompanying each image are a few words about the pleasures of reading. Also included: a brief introduction, double-page 2010 and 2011 yearly grids, fifty-four weekly grids, twelve full-page monthly grids, lists of international holidays and calling codes / time differences, pages for notes and a personal information page. |
